The voice of young professionals in Springfield is highly valued by community leaders, so opportunities to provide input on the future of our city are frequent! We know not all communities are like that, so we are grateful for ours!
The most recent opportunity we took advantage of was learning about and sharing our thoughts on the Grant Avenue Parkway Project. “The Grant Avenue Parkway will create an off-street pedestrian and bicycle pathway along Grant Avenue between Sunshine Street and College Street, in the heart of Springfield. The 3-mile stretch will connect downtown Springfield with the Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium (WOW) – linking authentic Springfield experiences for both residents and visitors.”
This plan will increase the quality of life for all residents, and since our YPs are so civically engaged, they were eager to dig into this game changing-project. We kicked-off the event by hearing from the City’s Director, Quality of Place Initiatives, Tim Rosenbury, to get an understanding of the goals of the project and some of the initial ideas. We talked about the neighborhoods surrounding the corridor, the trails and potential for expanded trails, parks, new features, sidewalk improvements and more!
Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and share their ideas for the parkway. One of the best parts of the event was the conversation won’t end there. There are many opportunities to continue engagement and sharing your voice:
- Visit grantavenueparkway.com
- Join the City for another event on February 9 at 5:30 to provide input on this project
- Stay engaged by providing input on other exciting projects:

We can’t imagine being a YP anywhere else and truly believe SGF is the place to be for YPs, and events like these prove why!
