Young Professionals Advocate for Business Community Priorities in Annual Advocacy Day

Members of The Network for Springfield’s Young Professionals Leadership Council traveled to Jefferson City on March 5 to meet with state elected officials and share insights on key business community priorities.

These priorities included encouraging investment in workforce and economic development efforts, education, transportation infrastructure, reducing burdens for small businesses, addressing workforce barriers and more, as well as thanking lawmakers for their work throughout the legislative session. Leadership Council members also had the opportunity to share how The Network is instrumental in connecting young professionals both civically and socially to the Springfield community and the Chamber.

“It was a great day for The Network to share their young professional perspective with legislators on issues that directly impact businesses in our region,” said Network Chair Callie Carroll-Swafford. “We listened, learned, and offered legislators perspective from the YP lens.”

As part of the discussions throughout the day, Network members were able to share their own personal and professional experiences to help advocate for strategic investments in workforce development programs, including continued investment in apprenticeships, upskilling, and workforce training.

“Visiting our state capitol with the Chamber’s Young Professionals Network was an incredible opportunity to engage with state legislators on workforce priorities that matter to our region,” said Ryan Morris “It was a powerful reminder that young professionals have a voice in shaping the future of our communities.”

With The Network’s focus on retaining talent in the Springfield region, Leadership Council members also shared how access to affordable, quality childcare remains a significant barrier to workforce participation and economic growth and how investment in all levels of public education will ensure a well-trained workforce is available to meet the needs and expectations of Missouri employers.

Throughout the day, Leadership Council members engaged with lawmakers from across the state, gaining insight into the strong collaborative spirit among elected officials representing the Springfield region. Their ongoing partnership ensures that Springfield continues to exemplify how leadership and collaboration drive sustained growth and success within a community.
