The Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce’s Talent Retention Coordinator, Katie Jones, who manages The Network, also presents to college students about what it’s like to be a YP here. Part of that narrative is sharing her own story on why she decided to stay after graduating from Drury University.

The City of Springfield recently held visioning sessions as part of its comprehensive planning process, Forward SGF, so when it came time to provide input during this critical phase, young professionals wanted to have a voice.

As young professionals, it’s important to give back to the community where we live. One way to give back is to serve on a non-profit board … but that can feel intimidating, especially early in your career.

Springfield has many wonderful assets to offer young professionals, but one that seems to rise to the top is our amazing and ever-changing foodie culture – our amazing selection of restaurants, coffee shops, breweries and more.

One of the many perks of being a young professional in Springfield is the opportunity to have a seat at the table and to let your voice be heard. Members of The Network had the opportunity to do just that at one of the City of Springfield’s recent Forward SGF workshops.

On August 28, The Network was able to tour Vital Farm’s Egg Central Station right here in Springfield, MO. If you couldn’t make it, check out this re-cap from Network member, Dee King, who was able to attend and left feeling for egg-cited about the work Vital Farms is doing!

One of The Network’s goals for 2018 is to engage more with the broader Chamber membership, including the Chamber board, and to create a constant feedback loop between young professionals and experienced professionals. Leadership Council put these plans into action as we had our first roundtable meeting with the Chamber board last week.

Taking the plunge to start your own business takes courage, commitment and encouragement. So it’s not surprising that successful entrepreneurs often have interesting stories to tell and valuable advice to offer.
