February Business Spotlight: Leadership Springfield

Why Signature Class? A Next Step for Young Professionals Invested in Springfield
As a young professional, you’ve already answered a lot of “why” questions.

Why stay in Springfield?
Why this career path, this organization, this mission?
Why show up, get involved, and invest your time here?

Leadership Springfield is inviting you to consider one more: Why Signature Class?

Signature Class is Leadership Springfield’s flagship community leadership program, and the 2026-2027 application is open now. For 40 years, the program has helped shape leaders who care deeply about this community’s future. Signature Class supports those who want to grow both professionally and civically, recognizing that Springfield’s success depends on collaboration, service, and shared responsibility. This program goes beyond professional development. It is community leadership in practice.

Why Community Leadership Matters
At its core, Signature Class exists because community leadership matters. 40 years ago, business and civic leaders recognized the need for a program that would intentionally prepare individuals to lead beyond their own organizations or sectors. Today, the program brings together professionals from across industries, backgrounds, and lived experiences to explore Springfield as a whole system, not just the parts we interact with day to day. Participants build relationships with others who are equally invested in the health, equity, and vitality of our region, strengthening the civic fabric that holds Springfield together.

Why In-Person Connection Still Matters
In a time when so much connection is digital, in-person leadership still matters. Signature Class is intentionally immersive and relational. Over nine months, participants engage in two retreats and a series of full-day program sessions planned and facilitated by classmates. These days include behind-the-scenes site visits, conversations with community leaders, and hands-on learning that sparks honest dialogue and lasting connections. Many alumni will tell you the relationships formed during Signature Class continue long after the program year ends.

Why Leadership Requires Context
Signature Class participants gain a deeper understanding of Springfield’s systems, challenges, and opportunities, equipping them to lead with clarity and informed action. Whether navigating the workplace, serving on a board, or stepping into a civic role, this context matters, and this program is designed to meet that need. Signature Class is also a high-impact way to invest training dollars in an experience that benefits the participant and the community.

Why Service & Impact Matter Together
Leadership is about action. Signature Class emphasizes civic responsibility and prepares participants to show up meaningfully at their organization, on boards and commissions, and in moments that shape Springfield’s future.

So, why is Signature Class the next best step for a young professional? Because you understand the value of investing in your growth. Like The Network, Leadership Springfield believes in building authentic relationships and creating pathways for young professionals to lead where they live.
