On October 11, members of The Network for Springfield’s Young Professionals concluded the final event of the 2024 Civic Engagement Series, an initiative that empowers young professionals (YPs) to engage with the community meaningfully.
At the most recent event, The Arc of the Ozarks hosted a special gathering at its newly opened Autism & Neurodevelopmental Center. Attendees celebrated the organization’s inspiring evolution, from its modest founding around a dinner table in 1959, to its status as a $37 million nonprofit serving more than 3,000 individuals annually across southwest Missouri.
Tim Dygon, executive vice president of The Arc of the Ozarks, shared the organization’s remarkable journey and emphasized its mission to support individuals with developmental disabilities. The Arc of the Ozarks offers various services, from residential care and autism services to therapeutic recreation, advocacy and employment support.
The center officially began operations on Jan. 2, 2024. Dygon highlighted The Arc of the Ozarks’ commitment to tailoring services to the unique needs of each individual, with an emphasis on providing life skills and personalized support.
YPs in attendance gained valuable insights into how organizations like The Arc of the Ozarks are making a difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities. Members left inspired, not only by the organization’s accomplishments but also with actionable ideas on how they too can contribute to improving the community through volunteerism and service.
This year’s Civic Engagement Series events have been dedicated to offering YPs educational opportunities on important community issues and practical ways to contribute through service and volunteerism.
