Meet the New Leaders!

When you think of the new year, it’s usually about resolutions – getting back to the gym, eating healthier, or other little things that usually fall through in the first three months. But here at The Network, we’re thinking about who’s going to lead us … not only at the beginning of the year, but throughout 2018.

On January 9, a standing-room only crowd of Network members gathered to meet the new, eager faces of The Network and the Chamber Board. Doug Neff, CEO of Commerce Bank’s Springfield region, stepped into the role of Chamber Board Chairman, while Kristin Carter, tax officer at Central Trust Company, is now the Committee Chair of The Network. Chamber President Matt Morrow joined us to facilitate a Q&A session with the two new leaders and audience members.

Throughout the program, Doug and Kristin held the attention of everyone in the room with their stories, sense of humor, and inspiring ideas to improve our community. Some of the highlights included a focus on telling the story of why Springfield is such a great place for all of us to live, not just young professionals or families. In support of The Network and talent retention as a whole, Doug said he is focused on how we can better attract, develop, and retain younger talent in Springfield. Both leaders encouraged members to support their community and talk about what makes it unique. In Doug’s words, “Who else has a Johnny Morris?” Kristin offered another memorable takeaway: When asked how she manages her time, she responded, “If it’s not a hell yes, it’s a hell no!”

When asked if either leader made any New Year’s resolutions, both said they were not big on resolutions because you can make a change anytime you want. But one vow they did make for this year is to work for the betterment of our community and lead those around them well.

Stay tuned throughout the year to see the difference these new leaders make!
